GFAC: Groups For Adult Communities: Event Proposal In Development for Second Life Adult Groups

Groups can be a powerful and deeply meaningful aspect of the SL experience. While there are many groups that are extensions of stores or sims, many SL groups exist to bring people together with common interest and causes. This convention-style event will feature Adult Groups, the formation of new Adult Groups, and resources that can help Groups.
We are developing a project that really emphasizes Groups in SL. (especially 'adult' groups) and GFAC is it!

The Photo Lab is open to anyone! It is very automated (just pick up the help notecard from the studio) if you like to practice alone. We also will have times available to work with a photo professional, for tips and tricks of SL photography.
Plus you can add photos you take in this studio to a constantly evolving slideshow. Have fun!

A MORE INCLUSIVE ZINDRA HELP VORTEX: IDEA 1: WEEKLY CLASSES/WORKSHOPS

PREMISE
A more formal expansion on our pre-existing Speaker Series, we would choose a good regular day and time (FRI nights at 10PM? etc) and each week would feature a new class/workshop or presentation by anyone who wishes to participate.

WHO CAN PARTICIPATE
Any business, group or individual with a good topic idea that will draw attendees can get on the schedule.

TOPICS
Emphasis will be placed on business topics and building topics, though other educational topics may make sense too. Diversity of topics, draw of topics and useful impact of topics will all be considered.

TIMING
To get good PR benefit for the speaker/teachers, events should be scheduled minimum 2 weeks in advance. The more build-up time, the more PR benefit. PR is really the primary benefit for the speakers/teachers, so we would want to maximize that window.
Multiple timeslots will be encouraged (a morning and night version, for example) to increase accessibility.

WHY THIS IS GOOD
1. Educational activities are a big draw
2. These events will provide businesses, groups and individuals with an exciting opportunity to get involved in Vortex, make an impact on the community, and network.
3. Business-friendly attractions for content creators help create an increased business-friendly climate and encourage residents to take a more active part in SL, starting or improving their businesses, investing more heavily in SL
4. Fits Vortex mission of a more complete Help experience.
5. Fits LL mission of retention

Adult Content Forum: Getting More Participants

ADULT FORUM: GETTING MORE PARTICIPATION

PREMISE
Attracting more participants to the adult forum will increase the possible talent pool for new ideas, the usefulness of the forum as a feedback tool, and the effectiveness of the forum as a communication option for the community.

THREE IDEAS

1. VOTING GAME
Initiate a fun question that encourages new participants to join the forum and post their opinion. If the topic is compelling enough, current participants can ask everyone in their groups and friends list to join the forum and contribute.
Examples:
- Vote for the wildest club in SL
- Best kept secret romantic spot
- Funniest thing you overheard at an SL party

NOTE: due to the informal, inaccurate and probably untrustworthy nature of voting procedures I don't recommend this is done for actual real voting that impacts policy, but rather as a fun vehicle to simply get more people into the forum.

2. LITERARY CONTRIBUTIONS
Create a special category just for this purpose: where participants can post submissions of items they write to fit specific criteria. Could be a contest with winners and a deadline or simply a more open process.
Examples:
- Jokes!
- Limericks!
- Exquisite Corpse style fantasy story


NOTE: because of the forum's nature, content could not actually be A-rated

3. MORE ROBUST WELCOME CATEGORY
Participants are encouraged to join the forum and always introduce themselves in the Welcome category by using a form-like structure that is more detailed and asks for fun details, to make the Welcome process more engaging. Almost like a mini-profile or one of those introductions' everyone is forced to give at group meetings for the first time (but fun!). Maybe just some simple questions everyone gets to answer to 'become part of the forum crowd'.
Examples:
- Your Favourite new Acronym
- What You Are Wearing At This Moment
- Most Bizarre Thing In Your Inventory RIGHT NOW

Note: maybe something whimsical, adult-related but not adult per se

PREMISE
As an alternative to a long list of forum categories (and subcategories), a simple thread naming standard can allow the best of both worlds; through the delineation of topic categories within a single flowing stream.

HEADINGS
With this scheme, there would only be one category (stream) and each thread subject would be named as starting with an All Caps category.
Examples:
ARTICLE: Why Adults Love SL
EVENT REVIEW: Nude Skating Party
PROPOSAL: Add Food Car to Zindra Monorail
UPCOMING EVENT: Nude Skydiving Marathon
HELP WANTED: Furry DJ Needed
NEW GROUP: Zindra Reporters Association
(etc)

A preset list of categories could be devised, as a starter list to set precedent, and users could always create new ones as the forum evolves.

WHY THIS IS GOOD
1. Thread types are highlighted and make catching up easier, more convenient
2. One continuous stream prevents threads from becoming lost in subcategories
3. Thread naming may inspire users to generate solid topics and stay on topic
4. All Caps headings allow for at-a-glance tracking of the tone, direction and use of forum

Congratulations Zindra Ravens! From Zindra Expo Group

After this week's Zindra Expo Group meeting, we watched the Zindra Ravens play against the Blades and it was very exciting (I myself had never been to a hockey game before so this was new and fun!) It was exciting to see the Ravens win 13 to 5! Hopefully the cheering helped. I'd encourage anyone to come to these games and enjoy them, They are very well done. This was all part of a recent initiative to make ZE meetings more fun and relaxed, and also to celebrate our growing relationship with GOHA.

ATTRACTING AND RETAINING ADULTS TO SECOND LIFE

This is a companion piece to the article: 'MARKETING ADULT SL: Getting Past The Sex' which was presented earlier this year and hopefully has already opened up new avenues of exposure (such as the Destination Guide) to residents of SL who create, seek and promote the Adult side of SL. This piece is partly an elaboration and continuation of that topic.

ATTRACTION AND RETENTION
The oft-stated goals of many SL initiatives are those of resident attraction and retention. Undeniably there are countless ways to work towards these goals, and it helps to define the audience when reaching for their attention.

DEFINING THE AUDIENCE
If one considers 'adults' to only be sex-seeking or sex-starved individuals, one may have chosen a lucrative market though it could be one fraught with serious marketing challenges. If one considers 'adults' to be those identified by their actual age (and presumably maturity level), one has chosen a large very influential market that can comfortably be addressed in mainstream fashion. By opening the definition to include all adults (regardless of hobbies or predilections) the possibilities of marketing are as numerous as they are for any other product or service aimed at the non-children's or non-family market. Limiting to the sexual aspects of adulthood needlessly restricts the audience if a global effort is to be made to attract (and retain) adults.
Note: this does not mean that niche marketing for sexual topics is poor thinking. On the contrary, it is essential and can compliment any wider marketing efforts.

RETENTION THEORY
The definition of 'adult' can relate to the likelihood of retention. If all efforts are made to attract sexual-interests only, retention may be limited to those who stay long enough to have urges satisfied. In essence, SL would serve as temporary interest for those who may be passing through or going through a phase. This does not lend itself to more long-term retention. (How long we want people to stay? If the answer is 'many years', is sexual experience enough of a incentive on its own to promote that?)
By contrast, if efforts are made to attract adults for sophisticated, mature, and highly developed interests (which certainly may or may not include sexual content, but can also include Business, Arts, Education, etc), then you can promote something far more lucrative: the retention of Content Creators. (certainly you can attract sexually-themed Content Creators, but we are talking about broader definition of 'adult' now)

CONTENT CREATORS
We all love shopping. We pass into the mall or browse the marketplace and pick up items. We are consumers. Many are service consumers, who happen to enjoy consuming the services of sexual providers! My argument is that the attraction of consumers is not nearly enough to lead to retention. When I visit the mall, no matter how nice it is, I may never return and I certainly won't want to live in the mall. It is hard to retain a consumer with the level of investment we may want to see occur in SL.

The secret to retention in SL is simple: attract Content Creators. These are the people very likely to open shops, buy land, invest heavily in the virtual world. These are the people who will help grow and develop any aspect of SL, including Adult SL.

BLENDING THESE IDEAS
The twin concepts stated above have often been blended in the projects proposed and managed by Zindra Expo group. A broader (and more marketable) definition of 'adult' blended with an emphasis on Content Creator attraction. This combination can attract the most (broad definition) and retain the most (deeper investment)

ZINDRA EXPO GROUP AND GOHA: TEAMING UP

The Zindra Expo group has developed an exciting partnership with the SL sports community GOHA and is happy to announce the Zindra Ravens, who will be playing hockey in the GOHA European league, as a first step in this cross-community relationship.

The Zindra Expo group is an LL-founded organisation that develops, plans and produces marketing efforts to benefit and promote Zindra and by extension, Adult SL. The standard of ZE projects are that they are not tied to individual companies, lifestyles or resident-run groups and are therefore more neutral and inclusive, working for a common good of Second Life's adult mainland. The group has evolved to originate and nurture many exciting projects, many of which are large events (Art Maze, ZEXPO) but also many inter-related programs that help to attract (through inworld and offworld drives) new talent and resources to Adult Second Life.

GOHA is the premier sports community in SL, featuring professionally scripted ice hockey and a vibrant online sporting community. The Global Online Hockey Association has been featured in Showcase, SL6B, SL7B, Winterfest, and televised on TreetTV. Founded in 2006, GOHA's major effort is to provide an opportunity for all online participants, regardless of physical, financial or computer limitations, to achieve their own maximum potential for enjoyment and competition in the virtual online game, provide social opportunities, and maintain an enjoyable online hockey community.

According to GOHA founder Jack Belvedere, "SL's longest running team sports league, is extremely pleased to develop a partnership, all in the name of good fun, with the Zindra Community! We look forward to getting to know each other during fun events at our place and yours! "

The Zindra Ravens are part of GOHA's European league. Captain Allan Gudkov: "Ravens are a hard working group who have fun playing the game while trying our best too win".

BRAINSTORMING SESSION PREP

HOW THIS WORKS
ZEG will be facilitating, keeping the brainstorming moving and guiding only if necessary. If anyone wanders too far 'off topic' we will guide back. (Negativity/destructive materials won't be utilized and will be redirected) The mission is 100% positive.

SCOPE OF THIS SESSION: TOPICS
1. If Zindra Expo produced an event or started a new program, how could ZE involve Adult Estates more? What projects could be designed to do this better?

2. What are some innovative (new!) projects/programs that Zindra Expo group and Adult Estate Owners can partner to do together?

3. What are some mutually beneficial ideas that can help BOTH the adult mainland and the adult estates?

HOW TO PREPARE
Feel free to bring any wild ideas of your own, even if they are 'rough' and not polished yet. Most of all, bring an open mind and positive energy! Be prepared to contribute! Don't be shy! (there are no 'bad ideas')

TIPS
1. When you hear an idea, rather than contradict, ignore or belittle it, try to 'add' to the idea, and suggest modifications, enhancements or evolutions. Note that even a 'weak' idea can become wonderful if given enough loving attention.
2. If you notice someone who is too quiet, feel free to pester them to join the dialogue! (We'll do this too)

RESULTS
All chat will be compiled and organized as best as possible then redistributed among all participants later in a document that is (hopefully) easy to read and absorb. The final document may be published IF the participants concede.

FOLLOW-UP AND PURPOSE
We can definitely have continuing brainstorming sessions in this format.
The real purpose is to develop ideas from these sessions into actual proposals. (ZE can assist in the actual drafting of proposals if necessary)
Some proposals will be presented to LL and/or to residents, depending on nature of proposal. The end result? Positive proposals that are well presented can become reality.

[13:26] Ginette Pinazzo: ZE is an LL group, and was originally formed to be a 'neutral, fair and inclusive' group to produce events to promote Zindra. This was done to avoid collusion with specific commercial enterprises, so that all ZE projects would be unbiased. Not easy to do. But it's certainly do-able......
[13:27] Ginette Pinazzo: For example, if you look carefully at our record, ZE has tried to keep all of our projects unrelated to specific commercial interests or lifestyle interests. I believe that an official organisation should never be in the business of promoting specific companies, lifestyles, politics or religions. (that doesnt mean you can't help promote them all.....you can...it just takes finesse to do it fairly)......
[13:27] Ginette Pinazzo: I've been called everything from a communist to socialist to freeloader, but I maintain I know a thing or two about organic growth and ways to encourage trust building and collaboration, which naturally can lead to all forms of growth, including economic, social and creative.......
[13:27] Ginette Pinazzo: My role in ZE...and why....
[13:27] Ginette Pinazzo: ZE did start out producing ZEXPO 2010 and then went out to propose and produce many other events and programs (not all events). The officers have changed over time, depending on project, and I ended up being a sort of spokeswoman for a few reasons, so I ended up being a steady officer. If nothing else, this allows for steady central communication and continuity...necessary for growth. I do send out Notices and group IMS and try my best to nurture overall interest and participation.
[13:28] Ginette Pinazzo: I would argue that, at this time, ZE is really the only central and very dynamic, 'neutral' communication source for Zindra, and perhaps for much of Adult SL.
[13:28] Ginette Pinazzo: ZINDRA's ROLE: WHY IS ZINDRA IMPORTANT?.....
[13:28] Ginette Pinazzo: This relates to some of the philosophy behind ZE and also to the beliefs many people have about Zindra and Zindra's role. It also relates to the reason I am involved at all:
[13:28] Ginette Pinazzo: The reason? Zindra is the Key.
[13:28] Ginette Pinazzo: Many believe, as I do, that a healthy SL will increasingly depend on a healthy adult SL. (and I am NOT talking about 'sex' when I say 'adult'...I am talking about people who are adults, as customers)....
[13:28] Ginette Pinazzo: ...A healthy Adult SL hinges on the adult mainland.......not all Estate Owners will agree to this, I'm sure.....but I maintain that Zindra (adult mainland) affects all of Adult SL, and will become more and more an important focus. Estates will be affected by Zindra, for many reasons.
[13:29] Ginette Pinazzo: (we can certainly debate this later..but thats the philosophy behind much of what we've been doing...so you have context)
[13:29] Ginette Pinazzo: WHY GINA CARES AT ALL.....
[13:29] Ginette Pinazzo: So..that is actually my motivation, personally. To help develop Zindra because its a Key to all of Adult SL, and I care about Adult SL because its affects the growth of SL in general. I don't work for LL (though some might say we all work for them). Despite the Lab's constant mishandling of things, I do believe they have an important part to play in the future of virtual worlds. And I feel that starts here.
[13:29] Ginette Pinazzo: and now to WHY were here together today......
[13:30] Ginette Pinazzo: ZINDRA connecting with ESTATES.....
[13:30] Ginette Pinazzo: To date, ZE has been working very very hard to develop programs that help Zindra (and by, extension, all of Adult SL) . We have had great success. But we have always known that many people simply don't get their voices heard. It's bad enough that most Zindra residents themselves don't get a voice (we have a Ambassador program to help that issue, a newsletter, and groups like ZE to help connect Zindrans, but it is slow) But it's far worse that most Estate Owners don't have any voice. This must change.
[13:30] Ginette Pinazzo: THIS MEETING...
[13:30] Ginette Pinazzo: I started this today because I wanted to see first steps to connect Estate Owners to a process of dialogue. I am not a Linden, and I only speak for myself and active members of the ZE group. I don't even agree with half the things the Lab does, and, in fact, am opposed to some of their actions (especially these days), BUT the main purpose is to simply get connected......
[13:30] Ginette Pinazzo: Even if we connect today and you decide my views are not your own, and you oppose my views, that's fine. This isn't a sales pitch to join ZE (though I'd be thrilled if you did, to stay in communication) and I literally just want to extend the hand of collaboration.....
[13:31] Ginette Pinazzo: I am not boasting or assuming any form of authority. As far as I know, to date, ZE is the only steady stream of information about LL's Zindra and Adult SL developments. Everything could change in a week. Who knows. But that seems to be the standing now.

(read the article: the basics are that LL has been tripping over its 'sex' hangup...and they don't need to...they can just market to Adults, treating them as adults, and don't even need to worry about sex because sexual content is Assumed when you are an adult).. Anyway, I have yet to see any real marketing materials from LL to prove this direction has started, BUT....the shift did result in one important thing already....

[13:39] Ginette Pinazzo: With this new 'marketing direction' LL is feeling more confident now about listing Adult-rated lands etc in the Destination Guide. I recommend submitting your place or major event. They only have a few categories now (under Adult content) but they will likely add more categories if they see enough involvement. Being in the DG can really make a big difference in your offworld searchability, by the way. Check the DG's listing guidelines and don't forget the 'get past the sex' principle, as best you can!
[13:39] JeZeBeLe Dagger: Linden labs in the past has marketed the expo in the login of SL by virtue of the SL Blog. We've seen posts that some have said theres a event going on in Zindra by a linden themselves. THose posts are few and far between agreed. They are happening.
[13:40] Ginette Pinazzo: a lot of the issue was marketing confusion..it just took a little 'shift' to get things happening
[13:40] Ginette Pinazzo: a move away from 'sex' and towards 'adults' as an age group is the answer they are supposedly taking to heart
[13:41] Ginette Pinazzo: Number 3: Zindra Help Vortex
[13:41] Ginette Pinazzo: If you dont know about it....one of the programs we started early in 2011 was the Zindra Help Vortex, the first (as far as I know) Adult sandbox, Mentor center and Outreach center. It's been very successful.....
[13:41] Ginette Pinazzo: We run build workshops and weekly contests (recommended!) and run classes/lectures mostly related to Business topics. It can be a great 'first stop' for many new people to Adult SL, so i do recommend some level of involvement. https://sites.google.com/site/zindrahelpvortex/

[13:43] Ginette Pinazzo: Another one of our main programs has been the ZEXPO Island Seasonal Events Campaign, which is an open application process for anyone to submit an idea for a large event to take place on the 4-sim island known as ZEXPO island. The program has resulted in a large profile boost for Zindra PR, and a lot of resident attraction and retention (number one purpose) https://sites.google.com/site/zexposisland/
[13:43] Ginette Pinazzo: So far we hosted Art Maze 2011, and ZEXPO 2011 and were collecting proposals from others for the next event. But that process has been suddenly interrupted.....(as some of you may know)...
[13:43] Ginette Pinazzo: LL has recently threatened to sell off the island to a private organisation. .(as usual, residents work to buildup something and LL seems ready to take it away and then charge them for it)....
[13:43] Ginette Pinazzo: Ive been very outspoken about their process to do this, and condemned it as unethical for various reasons. (I will continue to do so, if their process continues). I have no ill wishes towards any organisation that accepts the offer's terms (though I can't see why they would), but the way LL is doing it, and the fact they are doing it at all is killing the community momentum that's been building. They claim to want organic movements, but I see it as chopping down a rainforest. My hope is that enough see the light to turn the situation around.
[13:44] Ginette Pinazzo: PS - its not because LL wants to sell the land (though that's stupid enough in my opinion)..its the bigger reason that they want to sell it to a commercial interest and will exclusively market that interest as THE main gateway to ALL of Adult SL and Zindra. In other words, whoever would run this island (development details are being kept secret by LL) would be 'representing' all of us. This is a great example of why we need to know whats happening because it affects us.

[13:44] Ginette Pinazzo: 5. ACUG MEETINGS...
[13:44] Ginette Pinazzo: LL has been holding weekly meetings for a long time, usually every Monday at 11AM. First they were Blondin Linden's Office Hours and were about Zindra topics. This is where ZE did most of its proposal work. The meetings were infamous for bad fights, high drama and people quitting constantly. We worked very hard to establish a professional meeting format with an Agenda system, a Chair, and very organised process. Things became very good. .....
[13:45] Ginette Pinazzo: Then the meetings were rebranded as Adult Content User Group (ACUG) and changed focus, adding non-Zindra Adult topics and incorporating people from a dissolved Wednesday meeting. Still worked out well. We managed to get rid of most of the fighting and drama.....
[13:45] Ginette Pinazzo: More recently, Blondin vanished and was ultimately replaced. Now all of the history has been ignored, past projects starting to become erased, and even the meetings themselves being shut down and voices truly have been silenced. Communication is at risk. This is a good reason for us to connect. I could talk forever about how the meetings and user involvement is being destroyed, but I'll stop because I hope you get a sense of things now, at least from my perspective....

[13:45] Ginette Pinazzo: I feel that, if we at least start to connect now, we can stay strong and make a real difference as things unfold. Too many things happen in the dark and it doesnt have to be that way.

Why should I further worsen my competetive situation by supporting an intitative that says Zindra is key? It makes no sense to me at all. It is the private estates that need strengthening, not Zindra.
